Creating Common Assessments

When formative assessments are developed by collaborative learning teams, teachers are creating common assessments that are often stronger instructional tools than assessments created in autonomy. While a team of teachers could divide responsibilities for creating a unit and developing assessments, doing so will often result in creation in isolation, duplicating work, and the need for more final revisions. Teams that decide to work this way work hard, but they do not work smart.
